Is an Emotionally Focused

Couples Therapy Intensive for you?

An intensive is not for every couple. As you consider whether an intensive is right for you and your partner, keep these points in mind:

  • If you and your partner do not have the same goals for therapy, an intensive might not be a good format for you. If, for example, one partner wants to work on the marriage, and the other isn’t sure of their commitment level- an intensive isn’t the place to make that decision.
  • Couples in which one or both of you are in active addiction are not candidates for an intensive
  • Couples in which one or both of you are engaged in an active affair are not candidates for an intensive.
  • If being in the same room for a long time is very activating(potential trauma reactions) or you haven’t been able to be in the same space with each other for a period of time, this format will not be productive
  • If there is active intimate partner violence an intensive is not an option.
If, after reading the above bullet points, you are unsure as to whether an intensive would be helpful to you, or whether you, as a couple, are a good fit for intensive, you can book an free 30 minute consultation call with me, and we can discuss any questions.
If you are coming from out of town, all ethical and legal guidelines for providing services are under each therapist’s license in the state of Tennessee (includes but not limited to HIPAA, confidentiality, reporting abuse, etc). Allegations or evidence of abuse is to be reported both in the state that you reside and possibly in TN (where services are provided).

BOOK YOUR INTENSIVE, AND SHOW UP!

In our relationships, we are all vulnerable.

Paradoxically, when we embrace that vulnerability, we open ourselves to the real juice of life.

We acknowledge the courage it takes to show yourself to someone you just met. Our goal is to make counseling a safe and supportive atmosphere where you feel heard and understood. If you are struggling, we are here to help.
